GOOD TO KNOW
The things our guests ask most before they travel. Still unsure? Speak to a safari specialist — we reply within 24 hours.
The Serengeti is a year-round destination. June to October is the classic dry season — wildlife concentrates around rivers, the grass is short and game viewing is at its easiest. The dramatic Mara River crossings usually happen between July and September. January to March brings the calving season in the southern plains, when roughly 8,000 wildebeest calves are born each day and predator action peaks.
December–March: southern plains and Ndutu (calving). April–May: the herds move north-west through the Moru and Seronera areas. June–July: the Western Corridor and Grumeti River. July–October: the northern Serengeti and Mara River crossings. November: the herds swing back south. We time every itinerary around where the herds are expected to be for your travel dates.
Our Serengeti journeys start from around USD 250 per person per day on a joining (shared) safari, rising to USD 800–1,500+ per person per day for private luxury and ultra-luxury camps. Park entry fees, concession fees, a professional guide, 4x4 game drives, accommodation and meals are included. International flights are not.
Most guests fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha. From there you can either drive the northern circuit — a scenic 7–8 hours via Ngorongoro — or take a short bush flight to one of the Serengeti airstrips: Seronera (central), Kogatende (north, for the Mara River), Ndutu (south) or Grumeti (west). We arrange all internal transfers.
We recommend a minimum of three nights in the Serengeti itself so you are not spending your time in transit. Most guests combine it with Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire for a 6–8 day northern circuit, or extend to Zanzibar for a 10–12 day bush-and-beach journey.
Yes. Tanzania is one of Africa's most stable safari destinations and our guides are licensed, first-aid trained and in constant radio contact. Most camps welcome children from age 6 (some from any age with a private vehicle), and we regularly host solo travellers on both private and joining safaris.
A yellow fever certificate is required only if you are arriving from, or transiting more than 12 hours through, a country with yellow fever risk. Anti-malarial prophylaxis is strongly recommended — please consult your doctor 6–8 weeks before travel. Comprehensive travel insurance including emergency evacuation is a condition of travel with us.
Neutral colours (khaki, olive, beige — avoid blue and black, which attract tsetse flies), warm layers for chilly early-morning game drives, a wide-brim hat, high-factor sun cream, insect repellent, binoculars and a camera with a zoom lens. Bush flights limit luggage to 15 kg in a soft-sided bag, and all our camps offer a laundry service.
Absolutely — these are our most requested combinations. A classic bush-and-beach journey pairs the Serengeti with 4–5 nights in Zanzibar or Pemba. Climbers often summit Kilimanjaro first and then recover on safari. Our Extend Your Journey section above shows the most popular pairings.
