PAS-03 · Tanzania
Built around where the herds are on your dates — crossings in the north, calving in the south.

The migration is not an event with a date. It is a continuous circuit of roughly a million and a half wildebeest and several hundred thousand zebra, moving through the Serengeti ecosystem all year.
Which means the only honest way to sell a migration safari is to build the route around your dates — north for the Mara crossings from July, south to Ndutu for the calving in February, and the western corridor in between.
We will tell you where the herds are expected to be for any date you give us, and if your dates do not suit the migration we will say so rather than sell you the wrong month.

Why time it
Three things that decide whether a migration safari works.

We place you where the herds are expected to be, rather than running a fixed circuit and hoping.

Crossings are unpredictable. Three nights in the north gives you several attempts; one night gives you one.

Mobile camps relocate two or three times a year. In crossing season that is the difference between minutes and hours from the river.

If your dates fall in a weak window we will tell you, and suggest Ruaha or the crater instead.

Routed to the herds · northern Serengeti Jul–Oct · Ndutu Jan–Mar
Peak: early February
Around 8,000 calves are born each day on the short-grass plains around Ndutu. Predator activity is the highest of the year, and the herds are concentrated rather than strung out. Warmer, greener and far quieter than the crossing season.

Green, and very quiet
The herds move north-west through Moru and the Grumeti. April and May are wet and some camps close, but rates drop sharply and the plains are almost empty of vehicles. The Grumeti River crossings happen here in June.

Peak: August–September
The crossings everybody pictures. Herds mass on the bank, sometimes for hours, then commit. Nothing is guaranteed — a crossing can happen twice in a morning or not for three days — which is why we build in time rather than a single afternoon.

Short rains
The short rains pull the herds south again through Seronera and Lobo. A good-value window with newborn impala, migrant birds and dramatic skies, and the last chance before the calving season proper.

Four tiers, positioned to the season
In crossing season, how far your camp is from the river matters more than what the tent looks like.

Simple canvas that moves with the herds. Closest to the action for the least money.
$540–790 pp / day
Relocates two or three times a year. En-suite, full board, right position for the season.
$610–880 pp / day
Twelve tents or fewer within reach of the Mara River. Superb guiding.
$1,070–2,150 pp / day
Your own camp, moved to your dates. Private guide, vehicle and chef.
On requestFor July to October we book northern Serengeti camps first and build the rest of the itinerary around what we can hold.
32% CONSERVATION FEES
Roughly a third of your price is fixed government fees. Migration itineraries carry more of them than most, because the northern Serengeti means more park nights and often an extra internal flight.
Honest fit
This is the most date-sensitive safari we sell. It suits some travellers and frustrates others.
All seven, side by side
Rates are indicative, per person per day sharing, and include park fees. Every one of these is a real page — read the one that fits you rather than the one we happen to be showing.
Private · any date on request
Good to know
If your window suits the herds we will build the route around them. If it does not, we will say so and suggest something better.
