Who we are

A Tanzanian company, based in Arusha, that runs its own vehicles and employs its own guides.

Places of Africa Safaris is a Tanzanian tour operator based in Arusha, at the gateway to the northern circuit. It was founded in 2022 and is still run by Evans Obedi, and we are a member of the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO).

That matters more than it sounds. A great many safaris sold online are booked by agencies in Europe or North America and handed to whichever local operator quotes cheapest that week. We are the operator. The vehicle is ours, the guide is on our payroll, and if something goes wrong at four in the afternoon in the Serengeti it is our phone that rings.

We run the northern circuit — Tarangire, Manyara, Ngorongoro and the Serengeti — plus the southern parks of Ruaha and Nyerere, the western chimpanzee parks, Kilimanjaro, and the Zanzibar archipelago.

Places of Africa Safaris was founded by Evans Obedi, a Tanzanian safari professional whose passion for Africa, wildlife, and exceptional travel experiences inspired him to create a company dedicated to delivering journeys of a higher standard. Based in Arusha, at the heart of Tanzania's safari industry, Evans continues to personally oversee the company and its commitment to excellence.

With years of experience in the tourism and safari industry, Evans has developed an in-depth understanding of Tanzania's wilderness, luxury accommodations, safari logistics, and the expectations of discerning international travellers. His experience has shaped a philosophy centred on thoughtful planning, personal service, authentic experiences, and uncompromising attention to detail.

He founded Places of Africa Safaris with a clear vision: to offer travellers more than a holiday. Every journey should feel personal, seamless, and unforgettable—from the moment guests arrive in Tanzania until their final farewell.

Evans remains closely involved in designing and overseeing each experience, ensuring that every itinerary reflects the individuality of the traveller while maintaining the highest standards of comfort, service, and authenticity.

The growth of Places of Africa Safaris has been guided by a consistent commitment to independence, quality control, and accountability. As the company evolved, investing in safari vehicles became an essential part of ensuring that the experiences promised to our guests could be delivered to the highest standards.

Today, our safari operations are supported by a carefully maintained fleet of customised 4x4 Toyota Land Cruisers, purpose-built for Tanzania’s diverse safari terrain. Each vehicle is prepared to provide comfort, safety, and exceptional wildlife viewing, with features tailored to both private and bespoke journeys.

Maintaining direct control of our vehicles allows us to exercise rigorous oversight of their condition, preparation, and performance. Most importantly, it ensures that every safari remains under the care and responsibility of the Places of Africa Safaris team from the beginning of the journey through to its conclusion.

Our fleet continues to expand alongside the company, reflecting our long-term commitment to investing in the quality, reliability, and overall experience we provide to every guest.
