Our guides

The single biggest variable in a safari is who is driving. Here is how ours are trained, licensed and paid.

The one thing that decides your trip

A guide, not a driver

Tanzania distinguishes clearly between a driver with a permit and a licensed guide. Guiding licences are issued through TANAPA, and most professional guides here train at the College of African Wildlife Management at Mweka, near Moshi — the oldest wildlife college in Africa, founded in 1963.

Our guides are salaried employees, not day hires. That sounds like an HR detail and it is not: a guide paid by the day has an incentive to finish early, and a guide who might not work next week has no reason to invest in learning what you care about.

We match the guide to the party where we can — big cats, birds, photography, geology, culture, or simply being good with children. Tell us at booking and we will do our best.

Our full roster, with training and specialisms. Replace every entry below with your real guides — names, years in the field, licence numbers, languages and specialisms. Delete any you do not have.

Ask who is guiding you.

Ask us, and ask anyone else you are considering. An operator who cannot tell you the name of your guide two weeks before you travel has not assigned one.
